APRIL WEATHER.

; Per Press Association. Wellington, May 3. The Rev. D. O. Bates reports that April “opened with 1 very unsettled weather and strong - westerly winds generally until the 6th, Northerly winds followed, and a monsconai depression brought changeable and wet weather at Easter. High pressure followed, with fine weather, but easterly gales in the Far North, The most remarkable storm occurred on the 23rd, when the lowest pressure passed somewhat south of Cook Strait, bringing heavy northerly winds and general rain. After this high pressure continued with light and variable winds with fine weather. The number of rainy days were below the usual in most parts, but four westerly areas of low pressure caused the greatest rains to fall. In parts with a westerly aspect north of Kawhia and East Oape the rainfall was below the usual—in the Bay of Islands only one-third. Auckland had only 31 per bent., and Hamilton, in the Waikato, 70 per cent, of the usual. Wellington had an average quantity of rain ; with two days below thejaverage, but in other parts of the North Island the rainfall was in excess, and half as much again in some parts. The rainfall was less than normal in the Nelson and MarlTjorough districts, but in other parts of the South Island {it was greater. For example, Hokitika was 39 per bent, above, and Dunedin had one and a half times the average for April. The rainfall was generally the heaviest on the 23rd, but other heavy falls occurred about the sth and 6th, lith, 17th, and from the 30th to the 25th.
