BEFORE THE COURT. Press Association. Dunedin, May 3. At .the Police Court this morning - Nellis Lewis, charged with being a rogue and vagabond leasived twelva months. Amy Mivud Berk was charged that she did on or about January 4tb, 1909-, commit forgery by forging the name of John Roy to a receipt for £92, and ottering the’ same to Arthur Eiiis. Accused’s solicitor asked that she might be aliovved to have a chair with her back to the audience, but Mr Widdowson, S.M., declined the request. Accused pleaded guilty, and said “I would like to|express my thanks to the police for the kind way in which they have carried out their duties in this matter, and to thank Mr and Mrs Roy for the kindness with vVhioh I was treated when in service witn them.”

Chief Detective Herbert said that three other charges were to be preferred against accused. His Worship said accused wonld be committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The "question of bail could come up when other cases were heard.

Accused was than charged with receiving j- £4l " from Margaret Henderson by means of false pretences, and remanded till Friday.
