TARIFF MYSTERIES.

A deputation of boot importers pointed out to Mr Hogg that the duty in certain classes of felt slippers, which could not be manufactured locally, and would cost lid, was and that while a slipper with two. pieces of* leather on the heel came in at 6d duty, precisely a similar slipper with three lifts came in at la 6d. The Minister promised to secure a better definition and to endeavour to arrange that slippers which could not be made in New Zealand should come in at lower, rates. -
A deputation of wharf workers waited on Mr Hogg, asking-that immediate relief should ha compulsory in case of accident, and that in the event of receiving injury from old accidents the •employer should be made liable. Mr gHogg stated that he would see that provision was made in future legislative for immediate attention upon accidents and wonld give consideration to the second request.
