WHITE ISLAND IN ERUPTION.

Per Press Association. Gisborne, May 1.

An eruption on White Island was seen from the New Zealand Shipping Company-s Kaipara early on Thursday morning during the passage from Anckland to Gisborne. Mr Worthington.Jthe second officer, reports that from 2 a. m. on that day a continuous steam of black smoke in which flames were distinctly seen rose from the Island. The eruption was visible from a distance of 83 miles.
