STOOK REPORT. The New Zealand Loan & Mercan tile report:—At Palmerston North on Thursday a small entry o£, sheep came forward. There was a better demand for fat sheep. A fair yarding of oatt'e met with a better saL, young steers selling parricululy well. We quote:—Sheep : Fat wethers 11s 7d, ewes in lamb Bs. Cattle: Weaners 7s 6,1 to 10-, sfccre COWS 27s to 355, cows in mills £3 2t, 6d, forward cows £3 4s 6d to £3 10s. fat cows £3 15s to £4, fat heifers £4 15s, 3-year heifers in calf £3 10s, 3 and stores £3 9a 6d. Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report;—Ac,Palmerston on Thursday an average entry of both sheep and cattle came forward. The demand for cattle was better and all classes met with a ready sale at improved prices. Sheep were doll of sale and most lines were passed at auction. Most lines changed hands privately at the following prices:—Two-tooth ewes 9s, 3-tooth wethers 8s lid, mixed aged ewes in lamb 7s 3d to Bs, forward ewes 6s 9d to vs lOd, cull ewes 2s 4d, onll lambs 2s 6d, 3-year steers £4 14s 6d, 3 year steers £3 Os 6d, fat and forward cows £3 4s to £3 15s 6d, forward cows £2 5s to £3 12s, store cows 25s to 80s, good weaner heifers 17s, mixed weanera 9s 6d. GRAIN MARKET. Per Press Association. Dnnedin, April 31. Wheat.-—The excitement in other markets has been experienced* here to some extent, and all classes on offer have been changing bands at a substantial advance on the opening rates of the season. Prime velvet is offering sparingly, and is specially in request by millers. Tuscan and other prime sorts are readily taken at quotations, but medium quality has not the same attention. Fowl wheat is offering freely and has not advanced to the same extent as other kinds. Prime milling 4s 3d to 4s choice velvet 4s 5d to 4s 6d, medium 4s to 4s 2d, whole fowl wheat 3s 9d to 3s lid, medium 3s 6d to 3s Bd, broken and damaged 3s to 3s sd. Oats.—This market has been very active for the past two days, the demand being mainly for prompt shipment by the Den of Rnthven, And also onfjAabtraliau account. The demand for immediate shipments exceeds the supply, and the market has firmed to the extent of fully Id per bushel. To-day the quotation is Is 7d f.o.b s. i. for B grade, and is for A grade Gar tons, which are scarce. Orders from Sydney on a basis of Is 7d f.o.b.s.i. for B grade have in some cases been declined, 1 owing to difficulty in procuring supplies for prompt shipment. Merchants who took np forward contracts have also been endeavouring to cover. The combined circumstances caused quite a flutter in the market. Messrs Dalgety & 00., Ltd,, report :—At our Palmerston North sale this day a medium entry of stock came forwaid. Our principal sales were :—Empty store cows £3 4s to £2 10s, 18-months steers to £2 6s, cows and calves to £3 9s. At our Taibape sale on Wednesday, the 24th inet., we had a very fair yarding of cattle. Although the prices were not high we .disposed of practically the whole of our entry st the following prices:—Sheep: Aged ewes 4s to,4s 6d, small lambs 5s to 5a 4d, 2-tcotli wethers 8s 8s 4d to 8s lOd ; mixed ewes 7s 3d, 7s od to 9s. Cattle : 15 to 20-months heifers 255, forward heifers to £3 10s, fat heifers, £3 6s, fat cows £3 6s to £4, fat and forward cows £3. .
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd,, report on their Taihape sale held on Wednesday as follows We had a full entry of both sheep and cattle. There'was a fair demand for all classes of stock, and, with the exception of one pen of ewe lambs, we cleared onr entry. We quote : Fat ewes 10s 6d, ewes in lamb 7s 7d to 8s 6d, l ambs 4s to 6s 6d, cull lambs 3s lOd, 2-tooth wethers 8s t o 8s 4d, fat bullocks £5 19s, steers £4 3h 6d, 2>£-year steers £3 ss, fat heifers £3 3s, 15-months steers 365, calves 25s 6d.
