FEILDING TECHNICAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting was held last night. Present: Messrs Goodbehere (chairman), Trewiu, J. Reid, Bruce, Bndd, Oobbe, Loohhead, Bramwell, Mavo, W. Reid, Montgomery and Hill. Mr Trim was given leave of absence. Before commencing the ordinary business, on the motion of the chairman it was resolved to express appreciation of the valuable services to the Technical School of the late Mr A.G. Oarty, and [regret at his untimely death. CORRESPONDENCE. From T. Hambly, offering his services as instructor to wool classing class, and stating be had had practical experience.—-It was stated that the best time to form a class would be about June. -On the motion of.Mr Oobbe, it was decided to ask the Feilding A. &P. Association for piactical support in the matter.

From Orona Oonnty Oonnoil, notifying that a contribution of £3O had been made towards the establishment of classes in the country. From Will Dalton and T. Thomson, eaoli forwarding £1 Is to the funds of the plumbing class. —The donors to be thanked.

From Chairman of Pohangina School Committee, asking the director (Mr Fossey) to give a lecture at Pohangina on technical instruction.-—The director will attend if possible. The Director reported that 350 pupils had been enrolled for the first term as compared with 150 last year. The free pupils numbered 27 as compared with eight last year. He hoped si majority of these would qualify for senior free places which would entitle them to Another three years of free tuition. " He had made visits to Pohangina, Ashhnrst and* Bnnnythorpe, where the proseots for techui oal education were very favourable. At Apiti there were several classes in*working with a roll number of 74, and at Kimbolton 20 attended dressmaking and millinery classes. The roll number-for the whole district was 885. - The Chairman remarked that the report indicated a (satisfactory state of things and showed that the director was doing his best for the school.

The Chairman-reported the result of the interview of the Special Committee with the plumbing class, and it was resolved that the quarterly fee be £1 Is, instead of £1 6s. The Chairman, referring to a sug gestion that a gymnasium was needed for the town, said the director had pointed out the advisability of erecting one at the rear of the Teobuioal School. The Director said there was zoom for a building 80 by 90. Mr Montgomery said his experience was that a gymnasium would be costly to build and equip and costly to run if intended for ||grownup people. Mr Bramwell said a gymnasium was required for the school children alone.

Further consideration of the matter was adjourned.
