It is rumoured that Mr Patten, who recently made large profits from the rise in wheat, caught several New York millionaires selling short. They ware forced to buy in the, public market to meet engagements. Fifteen million bushels of wheat were stored in the Duluth district and no attempt was made to send it to Chicago. It is supposed Patten and his friends control it. MR PATTENS’ PROFITS. The profits of Patten, the American wheat speculator, yesterday totalled £IO,OOO.
