EASTER CAMP.
THE SOUTHERN FORCE. Per Press Association. Gore. April 10. The annual Easter. Encampment for Otago and Sonthland Volunteers is being hdld in country which is described as being the. best imaginable for the purpose. The general idea is that a raiding force (blue) threateniug Dunedin has landed a covering force in the vicinity of Riverton, which has been pushed inland. This force is commanded by Lieut. -Oolonel Bowler, and will be opposed by the troops forming Otago military district, under tbe command of L’eut.-Oolonel Smyth. Eight hundred and seventy-three officers and men are in camp at Mandevilie. Little was done yesterday, the eather being wet and cold. Shortly after nine to-day camp was struck at Mandevilie and the corps reached Gordon Greek after eleven. The precipitous country passed through necessitated the heights being patrolled, the instruction thus afforded being very useful as it is adopted in Idian warfare. Column marching is a feature [of the work. Field firing will take place tomorrow.
