United Press Association. —By Eleo» trio Telegraph.—Copyright. London, April 4.
Cambridge, winning the toss, chose the Surrey side of the river, and at Harrod’s soapworks had established a lead of half a length. Oxford, oame at them again, the boats shooting under Hammersmith Bridge on level terms. A neck and neck struggle for followed, ending in Oxford establishing a lead of halt a length. R. O. Bourne, the Oxford stroke, made a grand spurt, and at Barnes’ Bridge demonstrated that his crew were the better stayers, Cambridge being rowed right out. D. O. Stuart, Cambridge stroke, made a plucky spurt, which, however, proved useless to avert defeat, Oxford winning by three lengths. Time 19.50.
[Cambridge has won six out of the last seven races, but was handicapped this year by the loss of Fairbairn, who rowed two, just before the race. ]
