Pat ewes brought prices equal to late rates. There: was an improved demand for store sheep on account of the favourable prospects of teed. The yarding of fat cattle was easier. The number of store sheep offered was below that of recent sales. The improved tone in the market was principally dne to the late rains and the fact that feed prospects are more favourable than a week ago. The yarding of fat lambs was very small compared With last week, 2835 being offered against 5163. The quality was fairly good. Prices were on a par with those obtained at the previous sales. In some oases prices were slightly above the basis on which exporters are now doing business, r® as ° n being that freezing orders had to be filled. Several export buyers declined to operate,, but the sale, taken throughout, was more animated than on Wednesday last. All lambs ■penned 1 were sold. .None were secured I by graziers. Freezing buyers took 2854, prices ranging from 10a 6d to 13s sd, a few extra quality making 13a 6d to .. Butchers purchased 481 from 10s 9d , to 13s, 78 extra making 14a. Re the fat sheep yarding, wethers were larger than usual. Prices were easier, showing- a decline on last week of from Is to Is 6d. Freezing buyers operated fairly freely, especially for lighter sorts. Prices. Prime wethers 15s to 16s 10d, es "* a to 18s, lighter 12s 5d to 14s 9d. prime, ewes 11s to 15s, others 7s 3d. to 10a 6d. , The fat cattle entry of 365 head included a considerable number of fat cows. For best descriptions of steer beef prices were slightly easier than at the previous sale, while the demand for cow beef was very weak. Prices showed a marked decline. Best steer beef‘ realised 20s to 21s 6d, medium 18s to 19s 6d, and cow beef Iss to 17s 6d per ICOlb. Steers made £7 10s to £lO sa, heifers £5 to £7 15s, and dry cows £4 Is to £8 2s 6d. There was a small entry of stores, the sale dragging, a fairly large proportion of the entry being passed. Fourteen to 18-months old sorts 2os to 30s, 2-year steers 45s to 555, 2-year heifers 40s, steers ..£4, ; .dry cows 20a to 70s, There was a good yarding of dairy cows, and a good demand. Best class prices £8 6s to £lO 7s 6d. J There was a medium entry of fat ■qpigs. Those of good quality met a keen demand. Choppers realised 63s 6d, heavy baooners 55s to 635, lighter 48a to 545, equal to to 4%d per ib, heavy porkers 38s to 445, lighter 32a to 375, equal to 6d per lb. No large stores oame forward. Fairsized sorts made 28s to 325, small 22s to 27a, weaners from 8a 6d td 155,. smaller sorts met wth a poor demand. FROZEN MEAT. , Napier, April 1. The 0.0. and D Company cables the following quotations on the Bond on meat market;—Canterbury mutton Napier, Wellington and North Island 2%d. Lamb, first 4%d, second 4%d. Beef, hinds fores 2%d.
