RAETIHI.

The concert in connection with the Presbyterian Ohuroh took place on St. Patrick’s Night. The hall was crowded, and an excellent programmme as outlined below _ was ■ rendered by visitors and local friends : —Overture, orchestra, Melbourne March ; solo, Mr W. D. Miss M. Kang, “Bid me discourse”; orchestral selection, “The Caliph of Bagdad” ; solo. Miss M. Robson., “Sweet vale of Avooa” ; exhibition of fancy . step dancing, Mr J. L. Kennedy; dnt, Mrs Grant and Miss Nixon, “O, wert thou in the canid blast”; sole, Mrs Grant, “ Story land ” ; solo, Mr A. Bloomfield, “The lowland sea” ; solo, Miss Nixon. “The garden of sleep”; orchestral selection, “Kenilworth”; God save the King, sung by concert |party on stage. The visiting musicians'narrowly escaped a serious accident, as they were being driven out to the Obakune Station on Thursday evening. At a particularly nasty turning (a timber waggon was recently capsized there), the horse took fright through a small child running suddenly out on the road, and shied, the vehicle being overturned against an embankment. Fortunatey no one was injured, but the vehicle was considerably damaged, one of the shafts being broken and some ironwork bent. The local lodge of theA.O.P. held a most enjoyable dance on St, Pat- ■- rick’s Night, about fifty couples being present. Dancing was kept up till 3 a.m. Messrs Rorke and Goodger acted as M’s.O., and the music was supplied by Mr P. Sngden, and the supper arrangements were in the hands of Mr Williamson.
