THE WAITARA TRAGEDY.
SECOND EDITION.
Press Association. New Plymouth, March 20. In the Waitara murder case this morning, Sergt. L. Beattie, now of Taihape, formerly stationed at Waitara, corroborated other witnesses’ evidence as to Dr. Goode’s insobriety and suspicions nature. James McLeod, journalist, gave evidence to a similar effect. This closed the evidence for the defence.
The Crown called Dr. Truby King, who gave it as his opinion that when Dr. Goode killed Mrs Klenner he was mentally and legally insane, and had no knowledge which enabled him to make a rational choice.
In reply to Mr Skerrett, Dr. King said he had no doubt that Goode at the time of the commission of the crime was quite incapable of calnslv or rationally considering reasons which affected the rightness or wrongness of his act.
