ADOPTED CHILDREN.
AN INTERESTING POINT
Press Association
Wellington, March 16.
An interesting legal point concerning the rights of adopted children under the Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Act was argued in the Arbitration Court to-day. A man named Nevis was killed while working on the wharf last year. He was employed by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, who paid £4OO compensation into the hands of the Public $ Trustee. The widow now applied to have the money paid over and the Public Trustee sought the Court’s ruling as to whether an adopted child had any rights under the Compensation Act. His Honor said section 7 of the Adoption of Children Act made the adopted child the child\of the adopting parents for all purposes, and he ordered the parties to communicate with Mrs Nevis and ascertain whether she was agreeable to have a portion of money settled on the ohild. If not the Court would have to fix the disposition.
