FIRE BRIGADES DEMONSTRATION.

Auckland, March 10. The united Fire Brigades Annual Demonstration commenced here today. The events are being contested by 700 firemen from all parts of the Dominion. Results: — Hose, Reel, Fiat, and Ladder (five men). —Master ton, 37 3-sseo, 1; Auckland City, 37 3-ssec, 3; Dunedin South, 37 4-sseo, 3; Timaru, 38 2-ssec, 4. Hokitika and Westport, 38 4-ssecs, were also close up. Manual Engine Competition, five men.—Napier, 41 3-5, 1; Timaru, 43, 2; Hawera, 45, 3; Hastings, 46, 4. Manual Engine, dry, one man.— Hawera (T. Rogers}, 385e0., .1; Napier (L. Ashworth), 36sec., 2; Geraldine (J. Allen), 875e0., 3; Timarn (P. Campbell), 385e0., 4. Coupling Event, two men.—There were 83 entries in this event, and it was not completed to-day. Eight more teams have to compete. Timaru is leading, having made a record for the event (34 3-5), Dannevijrke (35), Easttown Railway (35 4-5), Dunedin South (35 4-5), Masterton (35 1-5), have all done good work. To-morrow the visiting firemen will be entertained at a harbour excursion, and the competitions will be continued on Saturday.
