Early this morning Karioi bad a slight coating of a light slatish coloured ash. No one heard any report. Large volumes of smoke are going up and travelling due east towards the 'Kaimauawa range. This was probably from the change of wind. No alarm is felt and no danger is expected. Rangataua, March 9. Rangataua and all the district to the southward of Ngaurnhoe are covered with a thin layer of ashes this morning.”
