SHOOTING.
TRENTHAM MEETING. Press Association. Trentham, March 4. The weather promises to be fine for the opening of the Trentham meeting to-day. In camp are 45 officers, 300 N. 0.0. ’a and; men, and 181 rifle clubmen. About 200 ;,tents have been erected for the competitors, also nine marquees. This is in addition to the accommodation occupied by members of the Permanent Artillery, who are acting as markers, etc. The camp arrangements this year are excellent and the competitors have shown their appreciation ofgthis fact by nearly Jail beingjacoommodated under canvas instead of numbers being located in farm houses as in former years. The Trentham meeting opened this morning under favourable auspices with roeord entries andjfine weather. Shooting started at 200 yards for the Volunteer Match, In the earlyjstage a fair number of “all buts” were put up, but the wind which was then slight steadily increased, and scoring slackened. Thirty-threes were numerous and on the whole the shooting was good. The following made possibles Burns (Karori), Higgins (Timaru), Seok (Stratford). Shooting at the 600 yards range is now progessing. SCARCITY OF RIFLES. Received March 4, 10 a.m. ’ Sydney. March 4. At the meeting of tha Rifle Association strong complaints were made of the scarcity of rifles. It was stated that over twenty clubs recently formed could not be supplied with rifles as the stocks of both rifles and barrels had been completely exhausted. _
