WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs Piiaui, Eraser, Bennett, Guthrie, Cargill, Spurdle, Aldridge, Parnell and Dixon. The following resignations were received :—F. J. Wilxes (Marten DELS.). M. Wilson (Kapuni),,G. P.’ Bates (Hawera), D. D - Henderson (Queen’s Park). A. W. Ross (Kelvin Grove). W. G. Menziea (Eltham D.H.S.). L. Kelby (Lytton Street). , , Leave of absence was granted to M B. Jenkinaon (Eltham, one month), O. T. Straok (Hawera, two weeKS, H. S. Siloock (Mount View), Miss M. D. Alexander (Queen's Park, two, weeks), I. A. tomitn (Karewai&wa, oue’month), M. uanapidn (Valley Road, three months), J Browning (Rangataua, one mouth), E, G. Aids (Hawera, one month). . Appointments : Miss Simpson, Mangara; A. O. Buckler, H.M., Ashurst; T. Innes, H.M.Ok;aiawa; A. E. Barroolough, H.M., Patea, Miss K. Billens, Kevlin Grove ; Miss Ohapmna, Terrace End. It was resolved that the Board invite teachers to compete for tne travelling scholarship on the same terms as last year. It was resolved to write to tne Education Department pointing out that the salaries offered are madeqaafce for special assistants at iJistriot High Schools. .... , The Chairman reported that a large number of letters had been received from various school committees re accident insurance. The Secretary had been instructed to tabulate the correspondence accordingly. It was resolved that a household school be established at Te Awa. Beaconsfield. —An application for house allowance was received from Mr Goldsbnry.- Resolved that the matter he referred to the Chairman. Taihape.—Resolved that the architect report on the repairs required to the teacher’a|residenoe. Raurimu.—Mr J. O’Hara’s resignation as Commissioner was accepted. —Mr Me William was appointed to fill the vacant position. The resignation of Mr G. H. Bennett as thb Board’s representative on the Palmerston North High School Board of Governors was received.— Mr T. R. Hodder was appointed to fill the vacant position. Taonui (Raetihi). —Resolved that Mr Aldridge visit Taonui re establishment of school. Resolved that application be made to the Department for a grant towards tha establishment of a school at Mount Stewart. Mr Aldridge presented an application fiom Mr Willoughby for the establishment of a school at Ohakune station. —Referred to Mr Aldridge to report at next meeting. £ Resolved that Mr West’s tender for addition to Lytton Street School be accepted conditionally. Resolved that the work recommended by the architect be carried out at the Matapo residence. Mr Aldridge reported that the District High School at Taihape was opened on the proner date. The attendance the first week was 25 pupils, it increased subsequently to 32, and last week the average was 29.8. Miss Mowbray, of Kakankl, will take Miss McDonald’s place at Marton; Miss Woodman, of Marten, goes to Rongotea, and Miss Pipps, of Kimbolton, to Mar ton. Mr Spurdle was granted seven months leave of absence, to visit the Old Oonntry. The matter of repairs and additions at Warrengate was referred to Mr Purnell, who was also appointed to enquire into complaints of alleged excessive punishment at Glenlair. The Board recommended Mr O. A. Stewart, 8.A., and first section M.A., as special assistant at Marton District High School, in place of Mr Wilkes, resigned. The Taihape District High School will be formally opened by the Hon. G. Fowlds on 24th inst.
