BULLS TENNIS CLUB.

The Recreation Grounds at Bulls presented an unusual and animated spectacle yesterday .afternoon on the occasion of the opening of the new Tennis Court, which has been constructed by the Domain Board, whose funds nave been materially augmented by contributions from the local, Tennis Club. A large number of interested ladies and gentlemen were present, including Messrs J. Stevenson, F. J. Mansell, W. Homes and T, King, representing the Domain Board. In the absence of Mr J. E. Walker. Chairman of the Domain Board, Mr King was requested by I&r Campion, secretary of the Tennis ,Club, to declare the tennis court open. In opening the Court, Mr King referred to the difficulties that had to be overcome before the present satisfactory condition of affairs was arrived at. Some of those present ttould remember, the time that the Eaugrtikei river flowed over the ground that was now being utilised as a tennis court. Bulls Local Board had no endowments for recreation or any other neoessary purposes, and only through the alteration of the course of the river was the Domain Board now enabled to provide a suitable location for legitimate amusements. Persons in the enjoyment of health naturally sought an outlet for their energies, and tennis was a game where both sexes could meet for mutual enjoyment. He congratulated the Club on the excellent start made, wished them every success, and hoped that the friendships formed under the auspices of Bulls Tennis Club would £be of a lifelong and pleasurable character. He |then formally declared, the Court open for play. Atternon tea on a most liberal scale was provided by the ladies, and much enjoyed by the numerous guests present.
