WAIMARINO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual, monthly meeting of above was held in the Council Chambers, Raetihi, on Saturday • last. Present: Ors. Smith, Punch, Dauphin, Dioksou, Richardson_ and Mai pas. . Or. Brass, chairman, being absent, Cr. Smith wasjroted to the ■'.chair, Correspondence was read Prom Department of Agriculture, re application for slaughter license from G. Morris, and stating that same would receive consideration. From Treasury, requesting that copy of'balanoe*sheei! for half year ending 31st March, 1907, be forwarded. From same, stating that matter of proposed loan of £I3OO for formation of Karioi-Oranknkura road would be attended to; also informing Council that rent for courthouse had been credited to Council’s account. . From E. A.'Campbell, on behalf of tattlers in the vicinity of Ohotn, requesting that Council assist settlers in making a stock track from Papa•roa stream to Mataiwi, where track branches off from Ohotn and Raetihi So the river. Trie clerk was instructed to see what rates were due from the settlers in*question. Strom R. Sigley, Rangatawa, forwarding resolution of thanks passed at a recent meeting of settlers :~ That this meeting desires to thauE • she Waimarino County Oounoil for its courteous reception of the depn tstion from Rangatawa on 9th January, and for promising to assist ilto Rangatawa settlers. ” OHOTU LOAN. In the matter of the proposed loan of £I3OO for formation of part of Oraukuknrn Road, which it had been decided at last meeting to raise, several sections had been omitted when the consent form was signed. Colonel Somerville, acting for these -ofcslsrs wired the Council to have them included. The Clerk [stated that he had replied to the wire stating that these could not be included without consent of Council. in this matter, Mr J. D. McGregor, owner of two sections it was desired to if,;dude, waited on Council to object to their inclusion, [explaining that the new road would be of no het-efit to him. He was satisfied vr idi petition as originally presented. The Clerk pointed out that the sections had now been included on t!, ’ consent form. The Chairman pointed out that the jiuFter had gone too far now for alteration, and that the loan would havti to go on. GENERAL. On the motion of Ors. Ptmch and Dauphin, it was decided that thirds accrued on roads No. 10 and No. 44, be applied for and used for metalling. The Engineer was instructed to have sheep crossing over sulphur stream repaired; also to have a dangerous cutting on Valley Road : ,r Ravnell’s fenced. On the motion of Or. Richardson, mded by ' Or. Dickson, it was ,c nied that Council pay the OhaIv.uxf} Town Board the thirds accrued ,;a the Welsh estate.
Cr. Dickson brought forward the matter nf some large rooks which a rmed a danger on Ohura Road at Dratoha. and which were recently c‘.o cause of an accident. Mr Wallace -had offered to remove them If explosives were supplied by Council. The Engineer was instructed to attend feu the matter. Lie road repair work, Or. Punch ■-ir.ivs.flßd the opinion that all repairs t:.'j drain, water tables,• etc., should h* attended to in the summer and shv workman not be employed in^this Wink during the winter months. The matter of .Council’s securing * road-grading machine was gone icto. and it was thought this should i>, obtained a little later on. Inquiry was made by Cr. ;Danphin ;;o vhe steps that had been taken, secure a refuse depot, and In ic (o.uti to sanitary arrangements. The Engineer reported that a site being surveyed. The clerk was instructed to ascertain cost of required class of vehicle. Messrs Martin and Son’s tender for supply cl dog collars at £3 6s 8d per :O'V *'t43 accepted. The Engineer’s report on the v rT:i iu hand and recently comoLdi'd, was adopted. Accounts totalling £468 3s lOd were paiisad ior payment. DEPUTATION. A deputation from Ohakune Town Ur.twi, consisting of Messrs Wilkie, >iimi and Athy, • waited on the A n aril in reference to the delayed .. ■ Consent of adjustments between •' fwo bodies, and also with regard • s tnQ amount 'of accrued thirds . -..ich had not been handed over to the Board. In the matter of the thirds, Mr ;• read a letter which he had received from the County Clerk, stat- - s;i;' that the thirds dne on the Welsh -:.r icg had been approved fortransfer would be forwarded. The County Clerk explained that ■Council were then under the im■.iression that the agreement would bo completed in a short time, and it would be better to hand over the

Dauphin said he understood Um Council was awaiting a reply from the Board on several matters, ; i.-,h had not yet been received. After the visit of the first depnta* tir,u.' Mr Wilkie was to report to his Board on two matters before the agreement was to be proceeded with, hot no reply had come to hand as , r Tie (Or. Mangawhero bridge and the Mangatutu swing bridge, Mr'Athy, a member of the deputation, said that it was evident a misunderstanding had occurred and recommended that the business be proceeded with. The Council expressed their willingness that thirds should be paid forthwith, and a motion to that effect was carried. The Board’s liability on Mangatntu swing*bridge ||was fixed at £7, and on the Mangawhero bridge at £3. These items being settled, it was arranged that’ the Board’s solicitor draw up .the agreement. The Council then rose.
