MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was held last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. MoEldowney), Ors. Gonld, Lyon, Hilton, Gibbons and Bredin. water supply. . It was resolved (Ors. Bredin— Lyon) That the Railway Department be notified that as the reservoir is almost empty at present, it may he necessary for the Department to make arragements for a temporary supply in place of the Borough supply. The clerk was instructed to write to all stable keepers and all outside consumers for extraordinary water supply pointing out that the supply of water in the reservoir is only sufficient for domestic purposes, and that all extraordinary supply of water will be out off within 48 hours. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Gibbons, it was resolved “That this Council requests all ratepayers in Marton to use water from the Borough reservoir for domestic or other purposes, as economically as possible, as the reservoir is almost empty at present; and that an advertisement be inserted in the Advocate to that effect.’’ A long discussion took place on the question of boring for artesian water and it was finally decided co invite Mr H. W. Climie, engineer, Kawera, to visit Marton and confer with the Gonncil on the question of a water supply.—Mr Climie is at present engaged at Huntervilie and Levin, and it is proposed to get ] him to break his journey at Marton when passing through. PARK IMPROVEMENTS. The Council accepted tenders for the erection of Park fences, one each side of the grounds and along the Western terrace and also on the western boundary. The action of the Finance Committee in accepting W. Frederick’s tender for catting the maorocarpa boundary fences, was confirmed. It was reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made for outing the grass in the Park. This work has been started. OTHER WORKS. It was reported that H. Hinks’ tender for the delivery of 1000 yards of metal and H. Guise’s tender for gorse grubbing on the Borough reserves had been accepted by the Finance Committee.—The action of the Committee was confirmed.
