FEILDING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The monthly meeting was held last night, the president, Mr Tolley, in the chair. ■ CORRESPONDENCE. From Department of Trade and Customs, stating to meet the objections in regard to Customs declarations that the services of the Postmaster were not always available, the officer next in rank had been authorised to sign such papers, me Chamber considered the new arrangement more satisfactory. From Auckland and Wellington Chambers of Commerce, in reply to Feilding Chamber, in respect to I ' rates of exchange charged by Banks, asking for further information.—Mr A. G. Oarty contended that % per cent, the charge, should be the ordinary:" charge and the maximum be £3 10a. On the’'motion of Mr Bramwell it was resolved that the matterj be allowed to drop. . From Minister of Justice, notifying acceptance of a tender for erection of a new Courthouse. It was resolved, on the motion ox Mr Carty, that tha Minister of Justice be thanked for his letter and he be asked to open the building When completed. / From Postmaster, Feilding, seating he would do his best to supply subscribers with a list of additions to the telephone exchange. From Chairman of Meeting of hnsinessj|mea recently held, asking the Chamber to appoint a holiday committee.—No action taken. From Director of Feilding Technical School, asking Chamber to elect a member of the Committee. —Chairman appointed. From Palmerston Chamber of Commerce, acknowledging the offer of Feilding Chamber to co-operate in endeavouring to get a reduction of railway charges on the Manawatu line,—The Chairman remarked that the result of the Government taking over the line had been disappointing. The Chairman said when at Plimznerton recently he had occasion to use the telehpone and the office wished to charge him as a nonsubscriber. He had pointing out that a subscriber should he allowed the use of the telephone service within the exchange ciiole. After some consideration that contention was conceded as correct. The Chairman explained what progress had been made in the proposal to advertise the town, and’said the committee favoured the publication of a small illustrated guide book for free distribution.—This suggestion was approved. . It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Oarty, that Messrs W. F. Bramwell, Spence and the President, be a committee to make representation to the Railway Department to have a passenger car attached to the afternoon good,? train " going to Bunuyjbhorps. Th 6 Chairman said thefS had no reply from the Government in respect to the attitude it would adopt towards a suggested railway connection with Sanson. , Mr Guthrie, M.P., had promised "to inquire into the matter of the appointment Of a coroner for the town.
