WOOL, SKIN & HIDES

Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report; as follows:—At Palmerston North on Friday, February sth, we had a fairly large catalogue to offer buyers who were well represented. Bidding throughout the sale was spirited and the whole of the catalogue with the exception of six bales of wool (owners’ reserves too high) was sold. We offered in all 120 bales and bags of wool, chiefly lambs, 2700 skins ana pelts, 400 large hides, and 380 calf skins, 50 tins and 5 casks of tallow. Hides were particularly well sought after and heavy ox (701 b average) made up to 7%d equal to £2 3s LOd per hide, whilst cow hides sold up to ,5%d per lb. Oalf skins sold well, some lines making up to 7%d per lb. Sheepskins and wool were quitted at late rates, one line of skins selling at 6%d per lb, which is equal to 5s 8d each. We quote : Wool: Lambs 4%d, 6d, 5%d to 6d per lb, dead 4%d to crossbred sd, 5%d, 6d lambs and pieces to 3%, looks 3d, black 4d, Skins, 448 lambs skins in one line 6d per Id, other lines of lambs to 4%d, quarter wools 4%d, crossbred 4%d, 5%d, medium- fine 6d, fine 6%d, (as quoted above), dated 4d, dead at per piece 2s 3d, lambs at per piece and by the piece from Is 8d to 2s Id, salted pelts lid' to Is 9d to 3s4d. Hides, large: Ox heavy 6%d to 7%d per lb, medium to 5%d, light 3d to 5%d, heifers 5%d, stage to 6%d, horses 4s fid to 5s each, cut ox 4d, cut cows 4d to4%d, oalf skins sound from 5%d to 7j£d, slippy 4%d, yearlings 5d to 5%d. Tallow, in casks 32s Gd per cwt, i.e. £32 10s per ton, tins £2O per ron; cow tails per dozen Is B% cl. Messrs Dalgety & 00., Ltd., Palruersf.ou North, report:-We held our first skin and hide sale of the present year on Friday, the sth inst., when we submitted a large catalogue to n good attendance of havers. Skins were on a par with last sale rates, while hides showed a considerable advance, and were quite equal to Wellington prices. Wool: Crossbred in bags 5%d to fine crossbred to 6%d, log-stained and inferior 4>£d to sd, lambs wool fid to rough and infexlor lambs wool to 5%d, orntchings to4d, bellies and nieces to 3%d, black'wool dead'wool sd, locks and pieces 2>£d to 3%d. Skins: Crosbsred full wool to 5%d, fine crossbred full wool to 6>|d, lambs skins s}£d to fid, dead skins 3%d to 4%d, torn and damaged %%d to 4d, best pelts sound butchers lines 4d to 4%d, medium pelts to 'i%d, rough pelts to 2d. Butchers part dry pelts Is 7d,lsßd, Is lOd to 2s 4d; lambs green, to 2s 3d ; butchers salted pelts from Is fid to Is lOd, salted lambs pelts to lid. Hides, abattoirs: Cows 5%d, ox fid to light and medium ox 5%d to fid. Hides, country : Ox 5%d to fid, cows 4%d to 5%d, out and slippy hides S%d to sd, yearlings sound to yearlings out to slippy 3d to 3%d. Calfskins: "Best 7d, medium calfskins to 6%d, meaty calfskins to 5%d, cut calfskins to sd, slippy calfskins to 4d. Tallow in tins 19s, in casks 20s to 225, rough fat in sacks 12s fid ; horsehair Is to Is 3d, cow hair Is, to Is 3d, cow hair Is, tails Is per dozen. STOCK REPORT. Mesrss Dalgety & 00., Ltd., report :—At onr Taihape sale on Wednesday the 3rd inst, we had a moderate entry of sheep and cattle. Amongst onr pxincipal sales we quote: Mixed 3 tooths lls Bd, 3,4, fi and f.m. ewes 14s, mixed weauers 17a fid, fat and forward cows £3 7s.' Messrs Dalgety & 00., Ltd., report on their Palmerston North sale on Thursday, the 4th inst:—We had a very good yarding of sheep, all of which were disposed of at auction. We quote :—Oull ewes 3s fid, aged ewes 6s fid, f.m. ewes 9a sd, cull lambs 6s to 6s 3d, small mixed 2tooths 9s, forward ewes 9a 3d, woolly lambs 9s 6d, 2-tooth wethers 10s fid.
