The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court commenced to-day before Justice Cooper. In charging the Grand Jury His Honor said he regretted there was a considerable amount *of business to transact.. There were 37 charges against eighteen different persons. Many of the cases came • from country district* ; still it was to be regretted that the calendar was larger than usual iu Wellington, and the offences which were charged against the respective persons were for , the most part of a serious nature. There were a number of cases of house-breaking, assault and robbery, and highway robbery, indicating the presence of a number of undesirable people Augustas Baggarlay appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge of behavior tending to cause a breach of the peace. Evidence showed that accused live'd with his wife at Carterton. Owing to a difference his wife came to Wellington and accused followed, and met her in Sydney? Street, accompanied by her brother and sister. The brother threatened to strike Baggarlay and the latter drew a loaded revolver and threatened to shoot him and take bis own life. Counsel for accused said the dispute had been fixed up and the parties intended to live together again. A fine of 2Ca : was imposed and accused was bound over to keep the peace towards his brother-in-law for six months. George Woodley, a youfeh, on twocharges of forgery at Palmerston, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, with the provision that he may be removed to an Industrial School. Frederick W. D. Anderson for theft from a dwelling at Waverley, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. W. "J. Blinn, for breaking and entering, got five years.
