MISS LANCASHIRE, LTD.
The accent which prevails in Lancashire may seem ugly to those accustomed to tjie English of the more cultivated classes, but to , all who have lived in the north of England it has a homely sound whichgoes far to render it a ttraotive. Miss Baines, who appeared a t Marton Opera 1 House last evening, in “Miss Lancashire, Limited,” makesuse of a North country accent of the broadest description and plays thepart 1 of the Blackburn lass introduced to the home of well-to-do poeple in London, so as to produce continuous roars of laughter from all present. She sings and dances well and is full of high spirits and energy. Her energy is indeed almost; tool great, but as she wins hearty applause, there is considerable excuse for her sacrifice of a higher and' more self restrained art. Miss Baines is practically fche-onlyrpezkon' who matters bat she was well 'supported I by the other members of - her company, and the large audience last night showed a hearty appreciation of the humour of the piece.
