HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.
WAIATA SPORTS. The Sports programme for this; popular gathering to take’place on Mr J. D. Balmer’s property is an attractive and varied one, and a large : orowd should again reassemble ifor the third meeting. Encouraged by past success the committee are, offering liberal inducements to athletes and horse-owners, and it is fully expected that to-morrow’s entries wiil; be large and the racing of an interesting character. The officials haveworked hard to give pleasure to all,, and the joint secretaries have all arrangements well in hand and the programme should , be successfully carried out. The first event stares 10.80 a.m. ■ ! MA.NQAWEKA SPORTS. ’ ' The principal holiday attraction on the Main Trunk Line is theeleventh annual Sports at Mangaweka. to take place on the RecreationGionnd. A more suitable spot for, holiday making could not be wished for. The programme is one of thebest on the coast,- and has brought in record entries. - The Sports should , be distinctly better than on ; any former occasion. The train arrange-- A ments suit admirably for both north* and south trains. TENNIS TOURNAMENT. The Marton courts should present: an animated scene to-morrow,'when s the first big tournament tinder the auspices of Marton Club will open and be continued on Saturday. Fully 150 entries have been received 1 , and many of the: leading players on the West Ooast are taking paH. The courts are in capital”order|and somekeenly contested games should be witnessed.' A large number of players- '. are competing in the championshipevents. - '.•■■■(. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ PIONIO. Complete arrangements have been.-, made for the Friendly Societies’ rally at Marton. The picnic will be held on iMr John Meyer’s property—a. capital pionioing, ground—on Upper Tntaenui road. An orchestra will- be in attendance, so that lovers of the “old time ” pleasure of aclance on' the green will be able to enjoy themselves. Other uumerous\ attractions should encourage d good number , totake advantage of the opportunity of an enjoyable day’s outing. BOWLIN G;TOURNAMENT. The Marton Bowling Club’s tournament for Singles and Doubles; will be continued, and a full attendance of players is expected. \ The drawings for.the second rounds are as follows: SINGLES. : Section!A.—W.
