“MISS LANCASHIRE, LIMITED.”
The announcement of the appearance of Miss Florence Baines and Company on Wednesday night next for a season of one night only at Marton Opera House, should he hailed 'with delight by all amusement lovers. Of the delights and laughs of the musical farce “Miss Lancashire,Limited, ” much has been written, and all who desire to enjoy a real healthy and lengthy night’s entertainment should visit the'entertainment. Of the performance ,of Miss Baines, the Auckland Star wrote “ What a pity one can’t fexpress a laugh in print, else one had commenced this appreciation of Miss Baines by such a burst of convincing oachinnation an must have sent all the world and his wife to the Opera House, for just as long as the management choose to stage “Miss Lancashire, Limited.” There may
be people who won’t, or can’t laugh with Miss Baines, but none of them were at the theatre on Saturday, and frankly, we don’t believe such persons exist; if there are any so abnormal they should immediately, if not sooner, undergo an operation—no matter what-for assuredly there is something very serious the matter with them.” Observe, one has |said with Miss Baines, not at her, for herein lies the whole secret of the extraordinary charm and effect of this very remarkable production. One never laughs at Miss Baines, but one smiles, giggles and bursts into uncontrollable merriment with her throughout the entire time she is on the stage. Such a laugh it is, fresh, wholesome, and utterly unlike the stage laugh; so free from effort or affectation, so bubbling "and spontaneous, like that of a great happy and irresistible child. You forget this is you remember only Miss Baines, and see in other members of the caste folk who provide her with food for her bubbling merriment and shrieks of laughter in which you join with a riotousness that is barely decent.” Miss Baines is supported by an excellent company and the farce is of the wildly hilarious order which must make the public laugh and be happy. The success of Miss Baines and her company in Australia and New Zealand has been phenomenal. In the latter place Miss Baines has only appeared in the four leading centres and created a sensation. Before, however, departing for England, she decided to tour the intermediate centres and the opportuni y is one to be availed of. The box plan is at Messrs.Mogridge & Go’s. 4s, 2s 6d and Is.
