WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. SOME DETAILS. At Friday’s wool sale at Wellington the catalogue was disposed of as follows Messrs Abraham & Williams effected a fair clearance of the lower quality wools, but their better wools, did not soil so well, owing to growers’ reserves being above buyers’ limits. Their best sale was for a line of very nice, bright crossbred hoggets, the Rungahiwi clip. For W. Mitchell, of Pahiatua, 8d was secured for 43 bales of Romney-Lincoln cross and 6>£d for his hogget wool. A medium bright crossbred from McKenzie and Cameron, of Shannon, made 7%d, the lambs’ wool of the same breeders making The Southdown wool of W. McKenzie, of Masterton, realised but the Southdown wool of S, K. Lancaster, Palmerston, was passed in at 9%d. The bright medium crossbred of Q. Ransom, of Bunnythorpe, sold at A good Romney wool of P. O. Ronberg, of Palmerston, was passed in at 9%d. Messrs Murray, Roberts & Co. had a very good clearance. The satisfactory price of was made for a good medium halfbred of Mills and Mills, of Pelorns Sound, to a French buyer. J. S. Handyside’s Oorrriedale (on the coarse side), sold at a remarkable range for pieces, which ranged from to 7d. For a portion of the fleece 8d was given, the better grades of the fleece being passed in. For 22 bales of Romney ewes from S. Williamson, of Waituna, was made, 26 bales of his Romney making 9%d, and 12 bales of his hogget wool B%d. For fine crossbred lambs from J. F. Studholme, Ngaturi, B%d was made, B>£d for crossbred and Btl for hogget wool of the same grower. The Romney cross of J. Smith, Paekakariki, made Bd, the same price being given for the crossbred hogget wool of T. Kennedy, Martin borough. McDonald Bros., of Qreymouth, secured 9d tor their fine crossbred hoggets, and F. Moßeth, of Feilding, 7%d for a coarse crossbred. An excellent sale was effected by the New Zeland Loan & Mercantile Agency Company. One of the best sales of t'he day was made on behalf of Fell Bros., of Niksm, whose halfbred was sold at lid. For 'the halfbred wool of R. F. Goulter, of Marlborough, 9d was secured, another Marlborough grower, G. H. Munro, securing the same price for a similar wool. For a very good line of halfbred J. F. Johnston, of Marlborough, secured 10%d. E. J. Riddiford’s Cheltenham Romney hoggets made lOd, and his crossbred ewes Bd. Mrs Baldiok, of Marlborough, made 9d for her halfbred. A nice light crossbred of H. Brown, of Shannon, realised 9d. R. Hutchinson, of Marlborough, making the same for a halfbred. Mr Jury, of the Wairarapa, was given 8d for a medium crossbred, and for lambs. The halfbred >of J. Red, Feilding, went at and the Romney cross of T. H. Windley, of Te Horo, at B%d. Other sales were: —B%d for Romney, of Kelson, of Waikanae; for crossbred, of tiira Parata, of Waikanae, and Bdfoi lambs; 8d for crossbred of J. Best, of Te Horo; and the same price for the «roß3bred of P. Paulson, of the Wairarapa. Messrs Dalgety & Co. cleared fully 85 per cent, of their catalogue. Some of the best sales were as follow G. E. Walker’s Romney clip went to for ewes. 9cl for hoggets and 5d lor pieces. The fine crossbred of Cornford and Burridge, of Waipuna, realised 10d, the Romney 9>£d and the Lincoln Mrs W. Knight, of Palujeiscou, made 9d for Romney eives. The estate of the late Mr Henry Westland, of Turakina, realised lOd for halfbred ewes. Q. Searie, of Palmerston, made 9d for Romney ewes. J. B. Qaisford, of Turakina, seour'ed 9>£d for crossbred hoggets, and the same for Down cross was obtained for J. Gray, of Masterton. The Romney cross of W. J. Lovelock, of Palmerston, went to 9%d. The top price of the sale for lambs wool was made for Mrs E. Chalmers, of Masterton—B%d for a three-qnarter-bred line. The Marlborough Weld’s Hill clip (R. Marshall) realised lOd for halfbred ewes, the whole olio meeting with splendid competition. A satisfactory sale was made by Levin & Co. Their best price was for the crossbred of T. A. Smith, of Oolyton. For six bales from the Palmerston Technical School B%d to lOd was secured. A Marlborough halfbred went to which price was also made for the 49 bales of crossbred of F. W. Wilson, of Feilding. J. McOrea, of Masterton, realised 9d for 29 hales of crossbred, an equal price being obtained for the crossbred of R. K. Simpson, of Marton. A. Smith, of Oolyton, made, B%d. R. E. Bannister, Palmerston, secured for his Romney cross, 48 bales, and for an equal amount of a similar wool R. Barton, of Marlborough, made from BJ£d to BMd. F. Wall, of Featberston, realised 8d for his crossbred, and Wall Bros,, also of the Wairarapa, 7%d. For the crossbred of L. Wall, of Porirua, was realised. The ordinary Romney cross of A. J. Rutherford, of Alfredton, realised WSTOCK REPORT. Messrs Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report:—At our Feilding sale on Friday the Bth Inst., we had a good yarding of sheep and a fair yarding of cattle, all of which met with a ready sale. Forward conditioned rape lambs (shorn) were in exceptionally good demand and met with keen competition. Following is a list of prices Sheep : Cull lambs 8s lid to 4s 7d, medium lambs Bs, forward lambs to 10s, 2 tooth ewes 11s 9d. In conjunction with Messrs Gortou & Son we offered a line of 900 shorn rape lambs on account of Mr B, Short, Waituna West, which realised 9s 6d and 9s 7d. Cattle : 15 months steers 355, 18 months to 3 year steers £2 12a 6d, cows and calves £2 11s, bulls £2 ss.
Messrs A. H. Atkinson & 00., Ltd., reportAt Friday’s sale at Feilding we had a good market and large entries in various departments. Fruit, of which a large quantity Was marketed, was for the most part in good order and sold well. Some prime sample Auckland grown peaches andjtomatoes arrived too late for the day’s auction. Wo quote: Pigs, slips and weauers 12s, 13s 9d, 14s 6d, 15s 3d, 15s 9d, 16s 9d, porkers 26s to 325. Poultry, hens Is to lsßd, ducks Is 2d to Is Bd, turkey gobblers *j s 3d all at each. Produce, pig potatoes Is 6d sack, table fafi to %d
per lb, peas 2s 9d per sack, Japanese plnms 2s 6d per case of2olbs, cherry plums 3s 3d per case, peaches 4s Id to 4s 7d per case, B. grade 2s 6d to 3s 6d, fowl feed 9s per sack. A large quantity of general sundries, harness and saddlery was disposed of. Ohaff and oats are selling at late rates. At the Wellington wool sales, we sold various clips at prices ranging from 7d for crossbred and up to 9d for fine crossbred, the latter price being made for a Colyton grown clip. Messrs A. H. Atkinson & Co., Ltd., Pending, reportOn behalf of Messrs McElroy and Boddy we held on Wednesday at the mill near Halconabe, a highly successful sale of building timber. The whole of the lots comprising some 70,000 feet were sold at satisfactory prices to the vendors. Quotations: 0.8. seconds made from 4s 2d to 7s per ICO feet. 0.8. timber 4s 6d to 10s Id, seconds Totara 11s8d to 12s3d, heart of Totara 16s 4d to 21s 9d, 0.8. rustic 11s 9d to 12s 3d, 0.8. and T, and G. 11s 6d to 12s Id, 0.8. dressed 9s lid to 12s 4d, seconds rustic 9s 6d to 12s, T and G seconds 10s 2d, white pine 8s lOd to 10s 7d, seconds 3s 6d to 7s Bd.
