Several alarming shocks were felt at Reggio, Mouteleone, Palmi and Catania yesterday. The British warships left an enormous quantity of stores at Villa Sangisranni The Admiral, before the departure of the fleet, received a frantic ovation from the population, who credit the British sailors with having saved the rescued from the ruins. There were many cries of “Long live England, long live our saviours.”
Nobody is allowed to enter Messina without a permit, aud troops fire on all who are detected stooping over the ruins.
Italy has thanked America for so generously offering to send warships to the Straits, addirfg that at present their assistance was not required. Aii'lorcign warships will have left to-day. ' Besides his previous donation. King Emmanuel has given £20,000 to the National Relief Committee.
Three people were rescued at Messina yesterday.

The Mansion House Fund has reasohed £70,000. A Requiem was held at Westminster Cathedral in the presence of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, and the Italian Ambassador. A collection taken for the relief fund amounted to £l5O. THANKS TO AUSTRALIA. Received January 9, 9.55 a.m. Melbourne, January 9. The Consul-General for Italy, in acknowledging the Commonwealth contribution to the Earthquake Fund, says: “The Oommonweatlth Government has given a most generous sanction to the most noble principle which ignores time and distance, Is above race discriminations and prejudices of every kind and is the true basis of civilisation. The Commonwealth has earned the everlasting gratitude of the warmhearted Italian people.
