CHEAPER CABLEGRAMS.
United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. . Melbourne, January 7. The Postmaster-General approves of the cheapening of the cable rates. If the Atlantic rates are reduced co twopence per word, the rates to Australia can he reduced to two shillings and five pence per word. FURTHER CONFERENCE NECESSARY. Received January 8, 8.20 a m. London, January 7. Mr Lemieux, interviewed in Canada, stated that a further Conference with the Imperial Government would he necessary before a reduction in cable rates could be arranged.
