RACING FIXTURES. January 27 and 28—Pahiatua R.O. Meeting. RANGITIKEI R.O. SUMMER MEETING. SECOND DAY. Another good crowd gathered on Saturday for the conclduing day of the above meeting. Rain fell continuously during the night, but the morning broke fine and a strong wind got up, and by midday it was blowing a hurricane. The course was in tip-top order and the whole of the arrangements made by the Club for the convenience of patrons was“excelleut. The racing throughout the day was good and some tight finishes took place, but times were slow, accounted for by the fact that the gale had to be faced coming down the long straight. It was too big a task for the top weights and consequently the lighter-weighted horses prevailed. Investments on the totalisator were £5350, against £7686 for the second day last year. The total for both days was £13.533, showing a falling off cf £3617. Five bookmakers were licensed, and they found plenty of support. Only one slight accident occurred, Yosami throwing A. McOonnon in the Hurdle race, but he escaped injury. The Marton Band on each day rendered a much appreciated programme of music. The catering was successfully carried out by Mr J. M. Nicol. Amongst a hard-working set of officials a special word of praise is due to Mr Goodall, secretary, whose duties were carried out with his usual promptness, Mr Thomas King, his assistant, and Mr Mansell, treasurer.
