Mr Robinson, Anglican lay-reader, was shot dead at Blackwood by William Pincombe, who also fired on the arresting constable. The latter replied, seriously wounding Piucombe. The details are meagre. Received June 20, 10.23 a.m. Melbourne, June 20. Robinson was standing on the verandah when he was shot dead, falling in his wife’s arms. The shot apparently came from a neighbouring house. A constable went across to the residence of the miner Pincombe, the latter snatched a gun and fired point blank at the constable, who had a marvellous escape. The constable shot Pincombe through the head. It is supposed that he was insane. He had been heard to express dislike of the local clergy.
