“HARE AND HOUNDS” IN THE SKY.

EXCITING CONTEST, - An exciting aerial race of “hare and hounds,” in which thirty-live large balloons will pursue and endeavour to overtake a smaller one, is to.be the outstanding feature of the Congress of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, which commences in Loudon on May 30th. The thirty-five balloons —the largest number that lias ever assembled —will start upon the chase from the Huriingham polo grounds. The “hare” is to be Mr O. S. Rolls, in his small balloon, the “Midget.” His course will be followed by means of field-glasses and telescopes, and when he has been three minutes in the air the other aeronauts will, ■one after the other, start in pursuit of him. ' But his aim, naturally, will be to elude them . In order to do this, he will manoeuvre his balloon into different air currents, and, should the “hounds” press too closely upon his track, he will try to ascend until his direction is hidden by the clouds. He may also descend into a “clearing” in some thick wood, and remain concealed there until his pursuers haye sailed unsuspectingly high over his head. Then reasceuding he may strike off in some other •air current.
