UNITED STATES PRESIDENCY.
THE REPUBLICAN PLATFORM. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. New York, Jane 17. The platform submitted by an enthusiastic meeting of the National Republican Convention at Chicago, nick-named “Roosevelt’s Canned Convention,” nrges such a revision of the tariff as shall give the consumer the benefit of most favourable prices, consisting of the proteettion of home indnstries and labour, and declares that the duty must, equal the difference between the American and European cost of production, including reasonable profit to the American producer. It urges the constant increase of battleships .to protect American interests abroad, and supports the Monro doctrine. One plank —recommending legislation to ensure labour organisations against snap judgment by Courts in the issue of injunctions—is arousing considerable opposition. Many of Mr Taft’s supporters object thereto. Senator Burrows was cheered -Ifor pronouncing against divesting the Courts of constitutional power.
