MANGAWEKA.
From Our Own Correspondent,
i Mr Arch. Stevens, who it will he* remembered met with a serious ac* cident some time ago through a waggon capsizing, is again under medical treatment, he having been kicked by a horse, which broke his leg. Mr Stevens is an inmate cf: the Hamilton Hospital at present. Mr P. Clements, a well-known farmer in this district, who recently sold his place to Mr Sunning, has purchased a section in the Waikato district, where be In tends ,to move during the coming week. A fair percentage of our residents and farmers here are'treking north in search of larger holdings. Speaking to several farmers during the past week they tell me that a. serious blight has attacked the turnip crops. The roots go first, and then, the whole inside of what appears a. healthy looking turnip is simply rotten. The Rifle Club ball held in the* Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday night*, was a marked success, although the attendance was not up to the standard, probably on account of so many counter attactions. Everyone seemed thoroughly to enjoy themselves, Mr Bryant, the secretary, and members of the committee .were untiring in their efforts to make the ball of 1908 a success. Messrs G. Carter (Clarionet), Mr J. McDonald (Violin), and Mrs McAlly (piano) provided the music.
