TAIHAPE.

From Our Own Correspondent. A social, concert ami dance was held at Utiku. on Friday right, in connection with the Roman Catholic Church, and was a great success, the hall being crowded. The entertainment »vus a.ve.-r enjoyable nne,£and we are pleased to know that it was a success financially. On Monday night the Hon. Premier Sir Joseph Ward is to be in Taihape, when he will receive deputations on various subjects for the benefit of the town and district as a whole, foremost of which will be the question of a hospital,' 'which the Wanagnni Board has seen fit with questionable wisdom to discountenance. Despite the opposition of the Board, Taihape may bo discouraged by the opposition of the Board, but is not beaten, and we are still-geing to fight on, for what all who know the district is a much wanted institution. The late Dr. McGregor, who was adverse to hospitals in country ditsricts gave it as his opinion that Taihape was one place where a hospital was required. The Minister of Education has not acceded to the request that a High School should be established at Taihape, and suggests that application be again made after the opening of the Main Trunk Lius. Yes, I think we will do that, and probably before that time.
