THE WRECK OF THE MURITAI.
Press Association.' Auckland, June 12. The enquiry' into the wreck of the Muritai opened to-day. Mr Mays, solicitor to the Customs)Departraent, said that the enquiry would ho directed to the course followed from Piercv Point, forty miles northwaid to th 3 scene of the wreck. The coarse was directed here to clear the Hen and Chickens four miles, the second mate on the bridge being directed to call the captain iu the event of the weather thickening Evidence would show that although the weather was so dense that tne island could not be seen at a distance of 2a feet, the second officer only called the captain at the moment when the vessel struc.k. Tim captain gave evidence- effect, and stated that he--realised to give the second officer a clfschkrga after the wreck because ho considered thafc no had committed an act of disobedience.
