REPORTS. The Engineer reported that work on North street drain had been comt xnenced, and it was advisable for the Council to appoint some one to see to the mixing of the concrete. The filters were being delivered and steps were being taken to install them. Several cases were reported by the ' Engineer of structural defects of ’ sanitary work in various buildings. He bad notified one owner to bring his drainage in conformity with the by-laws, but nothing had been done. Explanation was given of • -plan as amended of proposed bicycle • stand at the Post Office.—The plan I l of the bicycle stand was approved. The Engineer was instructed to appoint some one to supervise the mixing of the concrete. . The Abattoirs Committee in their report recommended the carrying out of several improvements at the works, the same to he carriect under the supervision of the Manager, —The report was adopted. The Abattoirs Manager reported ; That during the past month were slaughtered, 54 cows, 30 heifers, 33 bullocks, 2 calves, 70 pigs, 258 ewes, 91 wethers, 25 lambs. Condemned, 2 cows, 3 pigs and one ewe. Total fees ■ £72 4s. M , The Health Officer reported one J case of scarlet fever had occurred. It was stated that the nightsoil contractor was not visiting houses of which the owners were in arrears to him. One licensed drain contractor had carried out work without giving an opportunity for inspection.—The attention of the Engineer was directed to the action of the drain contractor, and a copy of the complaints in regard to the nightsoil contractor were directed to be sent to him for explanation. The committee appointed to consider the finances of the library, ■ recommended that the library rate be raised from 1-16 to l-8d in the £, and that all the accounts be kept -by the Town Clerk.—The report was adopted, and the following were ap- ■ pointed a Library Committee :—-Crs. Oobbe, Tolley and Fitzherbert, and Messrs E. N. 'Oofcterill, F. F Haggit, O. Gillespie and Kev. G. Bndd. The following committees were; appointed : Finance and Staff Committee : Crs. Goodbehere, Cobbe, Bramwell and the Mayor. Lighting and Water: Crs. West, | Richmond and Fitzherbert. j Abattoirs : Crs. Bramwell, Atkinson and Tolley. Park. Cemetery and Sanitary ; Crs. Fitzherbert, West and Oobbe.
