PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.
The Presbytery met on Tuesday in Mar ton for ordinary business. Present Revs. Eudd(Moderator). Gordon, Evans, Gunn., Ross, Ry-burn, Morton, Monfires, and McCuliy, ministers; Messrs Bell, Thomson, Bishop, McFarland, Fraser. Wilson and Bruce, elders. Mr Loan, Home Missionary, was also'creseut. A commission from Tnrakinn in favour of Mr James Bruce for six months was sustained Apologies were received and sustained for the absence of Messrs Hall, Scott, McDonald and Graham. Mr Jolly apologised for absence from the forenoon meeting. The Rev. J. T. Gunn, Mangaweka, was elected Moderator of Presbyterv for the ensuing six mouths and took the chair accordingly. The clerk reported that the Home Misisouaries were pursuing their studies according to regulations. The clerk laid on the table extract minutes of Timara Presbytery regarding the disjunction of the Rev. J. White, who resigned Pleasant Point, and has corre to take up work j at Levin. .The work of Mr White in Lis former charge was very highly spoken of. The Commissions appointed to visit the congregations of St. Paul’s and St. Andrew’s, Wanganui, Ford ell, Turakina and Bulls gave in their reports which showed that in all cases the ministers and congregations were loyally doing|fche:r duty. Resolutions expressing appreciation of the work and making certain recommendations were adopted by the Presbytery. The findings.of the Presbytery are to be given to the congregations by means of an ai ranged system of pulpit exchanges. Mr Evburn reported that some sections had been procured in the young township of Maugaroa. , Satisfactory reports were received from Taihajje that matters were making good progress, and that _ at Utiku a cottage manse was nearing completion. Mr Bishqn was given power to administer the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. It was stated that the Tailvape congregation were making ao effort to raise £IOO by means of a sale of work. Mr Loan reported that he had now £65 in sight towards the church building at Rewa, which was considered iiigly satisfactory. It is hoped to go forward in the matter very shortly. From Foxton encouraging reports were received and also from Levin, where the Rev. J. Wh : to has made a good start in his wo k. The question of attach mg Carnarvon to Bulls instead of Foxton was before the Presbytery, icd a good dealuk correspondence on the matter was read. On several occasions it has been suggested that Ea’.combo might with advantage he joined to Bulls, and a committee vas apconsult the people of Halcombe with the hope t' at a solution may be found. An overture to be submit ed to the Assembly re the expenses of moving Home Misisooavies f. om one sphere of labour to another was moved by Mr Jolly, and agreed to by toe Presbytery. The Presbytery also gave .ts judgment to the Assembly on the matter of the administration of Banidsms. On the motion of Mr Eybtrn the Presbytery will at its next meeting consider an overture e making provision for women tniss-'qcaries on the retirement from the aci've service of the.church. The Presbytery adopted the follow j ing. resolution re late Mr James Kiigour: The Presbvteiy dead res to place on record their tease of the loss the causa of by the death of Mr James Kilgoarof the congregation of Bulls. For a period of 40 years he d’d much in many ways to advance the cause of Christ in the congiegatiqn . with which ha was connected, aod |his presence will be missed in the Church committees, in-which he sat as an elder tor over twenty yeais. The Presbytery directed a copy to be sent to MrsKilgoar with an expression of their sincere sympathy. The Presbytery~afterwards met as Maori Mission Committee, and transacted several items of business. The Rev. J. S. Mon fries,--., the newly-ordained Missionary was present. ■ The next meeting of the Presbytery will take place at Feilding on Tuesday, August 4th.
