OROUA LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The annual meeting was held in the Courthouse, Feilding, yesterday! Present: Messrs A. D. Thomson, S.M., in the chair, W. and L. Bailey, Win. Oarthew, E. Goodbehere, J. Bruce.and Richmond. All the police reports were favourable, except in regard to the Raumai Hotel. Sergt. Bowden reported that the Feilding hotels had been conducted in an exemplary manner and the licensees had assisted the police in carrying out their duties in respect to prohibited persons. Four women had been convicted at the local Court for drunkenness, but none of them were,residents of the town; in fact, • only about six residents altogether had been arrested for that offence, though several prohibition orders had sheen granted, generally on the application of the wives of the persosn prohibited The women of the town did not attend hotels and there were no separate rooms provided for women in the licensed houses, not yvene children sent‘for drink. The young men were sober and well behaved. Licenses granted as follows: —To D. P. Barrett for Manchester Hotel, Feilding ; Eva Kennedy, for Feilding Hotel; W. T. Hook, for Denbigh Hotel, Feilding, with direction to keep the flow of cleansing water at the urinal going; S. W. R. Evans, Cheltenham Hotel; G. A. Lukashifski, Halcombs Hotel; W. G. Poole, Commercial Hotel, Kimboltou, to provide a pedestal bath; G. Brown, Rangiwahia Hotel; Stewart McLelland, Commercial Hotel, Ashhurst; John Hall, Masonic Hotel, Ashhurst, improvements to be made to uriula; H. A. Pearce, Empire Hotel, Feilding; W. F, Tisley, Apiti Hotel, improvement to be made in drainage, etc. The application of the Raumai Hotel was hell over until the next quarterly meeting.
