ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, June 3. Rees Williams, who committed suicide by jumping off a train at Ellerslie last evening, according to a certificate found on his body was admitted to the Normal School at Christchurch in January 1891, and passed a course of ono year’s training for teaching. There was also in his pocket a letter from the Secretary of North Canterbury Board of Education. A pointsman at Ellerslie Station stated at the inquest that he saw Williams, who was on the platform as the train was passing, rush to the edge of the platform. Witness seized Williams’ coat and a'struggle ensued, the coat coming off. Williams fell under the engine and the teuer passed over him. The jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane. Wellington, June 4. Henry Longton, nightwatchman iu the post office, fell down the stairs in the building early this morning and struck his head a heavy blow. He was taken to the hospital where he lies in a critical condition. It is feared his skull is fractured.
