PEILDING 9 v. PALMERSTON 8,

Feilding forwards made the pace a cracker from the word go. One of the Carroll Bros, and O’Leary led a carry-all-before-it-rush and quickly had Palmerston 'up against a wall. From a scrum Price got possession, transferred to Taylor, to Harding, to Pirani, who dropped over. Taylor failed with the kick, Kyle headed a Palmerston dribbling rush and Hewitt and Buchanan put in good work, but Pirani marked twice in quick succession. .Stubbs responded to the second with a fine kick, which went out only a yard from Foilcling’s goal line. The yellows gradually relieved and saon attacked again, Taylor dribbling through and Stewart failing to hold the slippery oval another score to the* yellows seemed imminent, F* but Hewitt whipped back and forced just in time. Eglington, Buick, Hewitt and Treveua exchanged kicks, and Buchanan, Briscoe, Hewitt and Brown did nice concerted work which was checked by Trevena and Taylor in tarn. Feilding forwards again asserted themselves, but Briscoe got possession, beat a couple and well situation. SECOND sp ELL . Palmerston forced early. A hard kick looked like another force, but Mexted streaked after and beat half a dozen defenders to the intense delight of the Feilding barrackars. M". Carroll made a very poor [attempt.—Feilding (i, Palmerston 0. Shortly after resuming Trevena fumbled, and let Palmerston down. The yellow vanguard kept hammering away, and Hewitt went down to a solid rush, which proved to he at the expense of a penalty. M. Carroll from a difficult angle took a drop and with a splendid kick scored. —Feilding '9, Palmerston 0. Palmerston’s scrummors [attacked. Briscoe’s kick from a penalty was only lacking in elevation for the hall almost touched the bottom of the bar. From the kick out, Hewitt picked up cleverly, and landed a centering kick close to Feilding’s line, where a yellow infringement gave Briscoe another kick, [and he put the ball safely over. Feilding 9, Palmerston 3. Encouraged by the belated score, Palmerston led by Best, attacked but Treveua checked splendidly. Feilding responded with a good bit of passing, M. Carroll, Ryan, and Harding taking part, the last-named being pushed out by Stubbs. From some fast play the ball was whipped out to Pirani but Hewitt bagged him. Palmerston slowly drove the enemy hack, and a hard kick through by Best beat M. Carroll and Trevena was bustled. A scrum followed from which Buchanan came round on the blind side, and passing to Hewitt ..the latter ran across. Briscoe took? the kick and landed a beautiful goal. Feilding 9, Palmerston 8. From this out Feilding attacked strongly hut could not increased the score. The" Rev. O. O. Harper was referee. RATA 11. 6 v. EXCELSIORS 0. The junior shield match between the above was played at” Rata on Saturday and resulted in a win for the home team by 6 points (an unconverted try and a goal from a mark) to nil. Flay was of au even character throughout and Rata scored during the last ten minutes of the game. Rev. Father Molloy made an efficient referee. OLD BOYS 3 v. WINIATA 0. From Our Taihape Correspondent. The fixture Old Boys v. Winiata was played on the local oval on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a hare win for the Old Boys by a try to nil. The game cannot be better described than by saying that it consisted of a series of scraegings and scrambles from start to finish. There was a complete of any attempt at good open play, the exhibition being one of successive mauls. Both teams being apparently well matched in that respect, it would be difficult to pick out any attempt at good play as there was a complete absence of football for exhibiiton on Saturday. The try that was secured by Bertram was got from a scrum near the goal line. The whistle was in the hands of the Rev. Tiusey, who, however, did not appear [to give complete satisfaction. I am not a believer in too much whistle, but on Saturday the fault appeared to be rather in the breach than in the observance.

Mataroa v. Utiku was won by Utiku by 7 points to 3. Taihape beat Maugaweka by 9 points to nil. Next Saturday Taihape will meet the Old Boys on the local ground and a good match is predicted, as neither of the teams have been beaten so far this season. If, however, the Old Boys cannot give a better exhibition than they did on Saturday last, then the Taihape team will have an easyfwin, but we hope for better things from, the Old Boys and hope to see a good game next Saturday.

The following will represent Bulls v. Hnnterville Juniors at Bulls on June 3rd Mower, Yalpy, McGregor, Bishop, Nicholson, Davis, Green, Frecklington, Bromley, Garter, McGregor, Signal, Hinkley, Dawson. Emergencies: Backs, Ransom, Mercer; forwards, Trueman, Jackson and Whale. Scrum practice to-night.
