Lord Curzon, speaking at the dinner of the Central Asian Society, said that recent arrangements, however successful, had not determined the future of Britain and Russia in Asia. Vigilance was required to hold and defend what Britain had gained. There was a dark and almost impenetrable pall over India, and Britain must do nothing to retard the success of the great aims with which she had been charged there.
