DANCE AT CHELTENHAM.
A very enjoyable Ladies’ Leap Year Bail was held in the Cheltenham Hall ou 15tb May. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion by the Cheltenham and district ladies. The evening being fine, upwards of 100 couples® were present, which taxed the hall to its utmost limit, this being one of the largest gatherings of the kind yet held there. The floor was in excellent order aud dancing was kept up till 4.30 a.m. Some very nice dresses were worn by the ladies, which, no doubt, would have looked to greater advantage had the ball lamps given a better light. Uu fortunately said lamps refused to shed a brilliant light—’twas a case of dancing amid the gloom; rather a change from the usual glare and glitter. Music was supplied by Mr Perichou, piano. Extras were played by a number of ladies and gentlemen. Mr Archibald rendered several songs in his usual entertaining manner, which was much appreciated by all present. The supper was supplied by Mr A. Hart, of Feilding, augmented by fruits, jellies aud sandwiches which a number of ladies kindly contributed. Miss N; Desmond acted as hon. secretary for the occasion, as no regular committee was appointed. Miss Desmond and all those ladies who so kindly contributed towards the function are to be congratulated on the success which rewarded their efforts. Everyone appeared to have an enjoyable time.
