SPEECH BY -SIR E. GREY.
'Sir Edward Grey, speaking at the dinner of the Iron and Steel Institute, declared that Britain’s aim was peace, but her naval expenditure depended upon that of other Powers. Her navy was for defence and if ever it failed to such a point as to be unable to cope with any probable combination brought against it, her very independence and integrity would be jeopardised. BY-ELECTION. The by-election for Newport divisional Shropshire to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Col. Kenyon Slaney, resulted: Stauier (Unionist) 5328, F. Neilson (Liberal) 4377.
