THE ESCAPED PRISONER.

Press Association

Auckland, May 14. Easten, the escaped prisoner, when confronted by Constables Ryan and Neil at Raugitaike, had concealed in his trousers pocket a fully loaded five-chambered revolver. Ryan, obeserving a, peculiar movement on the part of Easten, sprang upon him and him as he drew the revolver. Easten remarked, “Yon were a bit too smart for me or X would have put a couple into you. ” After escaping from the camp Easten representing himself to be a warder pursuing the escaped prisoner, borrowed a horse from a roadman. He rode the horse within a mile of Taupe, and then cast it adrift, throwing the saddle and bridle into the scrub.
