BURNSIDE FREEZING WORKS.
A STRIKE IMMINENT

The employees of the Burnside Freezing Works, the property of the Christchurch Meat Company, have for some time past been dissatisfied with the rate of pay being given them. About November last the men were informed, it is stated, they would receive the same rate of pay as was made, subject to the award of the Christchurch Freezing Works, namely, Is 3d for ordinary time of eight hours a day, and Is 5d for overtime. The season was commenced on January 28th, bat it is alleged that the company has declined to give more than Is per hour for ordinary time, and Is for overtime. It is futher alleged that pay to the outside hands was reduced from Is to ll}Jd per hour after getting in about one month’s work, the result being general The demands for an increase of wages have met with a point blank refusal, and the employees, numbering 17 in all, have intimated to the management that unless their wishes are acceded to they will ceafee work at 12 o’clock to-day (Saturday), and will not return until such time as they get what they are asking. _ It is stated by the men that in reducing the outside hands to ll%d per hour the company has brought them under the manure workers’ award, whichj the men contend, the company is not justified in doing.
