Mr J. Napier will contest Waitemata against the sitting member Mr E. W. Allison. Napier reports the death of Major Edmundson, who saw considerable service in India. Deceased arrived in the colony in 1887. Tyneside mine is flooded, the pumps being insufiicient to cope with the inrnsh of water. One hundred and fifty men are thrown oat of employment. While a game of poker was proceeding at a house in the Avenue Ingres, Paris, six men entered. The leader announced himself as the police commissary, collected £l6O which lay on the table, and warned the party to appear at the police court on the following day. When they did so'they were informed . that their visitors were swindlers. The FeildingJStar states that Mr Wilkinson, of Feilding, is- the successful tenderer for the Taihape Technical School. As the price is in excess of the grant, the tender has not been finally accepted until approved by the Education Department. Mr Marsh, butcher, High Street, Marton, had a fine show last night of prime beef, veal, mutton and dairy fed pork. The quality of the meat was excellent and it appeared to find plenty of ready purchasers. A meeting held ’at Stratford convened by the National Dairy Association decided to recommend all butter factories to ship by the next Home steamer at lease twenty per cent of butter then in store and continue shipments as may seem desirable. Auckland reports that two men who wers interrupted when loading scrap iron belonging to Pakuranga residents, abandoned their horse, cart, and contents and fled in the direction of Auckland. The horse and cart weis presumably stolen and are now in possession of the police. The Union Company states that the mishap to the Matai is slight, and will not prevent her taking up the Tarawora’s running. She will he docked at Melbourne and the Tarawera will exchange passengers and cargo at Hobart. Messrs Noyes Bros, have accepted Dunedin City Council’s offer of £BSOO In full satisafution of all outsanding claims for the construction of the Waipori electrical scheme.
