A MAGISTRATE’S OPINION,

Per Press Association. Westport, May 9

For playing “two-up” at Dennistou Mr Rawson, S. M., George Millar (with a previous conviction) £lO, Percy Broad hurst £3, Alfred Croft and James Melodonovitoh £3. . The Magistrate said that the practice of playing “two-up” was becoming a very great evil throughout New Zealand, aud complaints were made to the police from time to time by the wives of miners at Denuistou that their husbands wasted thier money playing “twoup.” He could not see any sense in the game; it seemed only fit for children. He was determined 'to do what he could to stop the vicious practice.
