INSPECTION OF POTATOES.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, May 7. In connection with the protest by the Invercargill exporters against the action of the Government regarding the inspection of potatoes at the port of arrival, and the request for inspection at the port of shipment, there was a meeting of Dunedin merchants held to-night, when it was decided to send the following telegram to the Minister of Trade and Customs:—“The Dunedin merchants have unanimously agreed to ask you' to grant permission for a grader to certify as to the condition of all potatoes at port of shipment, instead of at port of destination, as the matter is of vital "importance to shippers. ’ ’ It was also decided that in view of the regulations, no further sales of potatoes be made, except the certificate of the grader, or “some other authorised person as to the condition at 'the port of shipment, be accepted as final, and that no further risks be entertained after shipment has been effected.
