FIRE AT HASTINGS.

Per Press Association. Hastings, May 6. Mr New biggin went through the building a-t 1 a. in. and everything appeared safe. He surmises that the coal stacked alongside the boiler caught fire. Only the books were saved. The Fire Brigade formed a bucket brigade owing to no water being available for the steamer. Insurances : Stock, £4OO in the Alliance: building, £SSO in the National. The cellars and stores- were heavily stocked, and it is estimated the loss will be fully £2OO over insurances.
